Blue River – Silverthorne Colorado

So on our last day in Colorado we decided to hit Blue River, This place was amazing!

The day started out at 56 degrees @ 7am and quickly hit 88 by 10am, water is super clear and very healthy, making for some good size fish!

Colorado Carping

BB and I decided to try our hand at Brownlining in Colorado, with that in mind I took it upon myself to reach out to James from Primal Fly.

If you follow Primal Fly then you know James has left Colorado and started a new chapter in Florida, fortunate for us his crew is still in Colorado and his legend lives on!

James was kind enough to put us in touch with M. Gracie (a legend to us..)

After talking with Gracie we decided to meet up and try our hand at Carping; While trekking out to the secret destination we stopped at Discount Flies.

When we walked in I noticed a guy behind the counter with a Primal Fly shirt on, after talking to him I find out it’s David Luna from the Primal Fly Crew.

David gave us the low down on the carp and gave us insight on to some techniques we didn’t know about, after being skooled we headed out to meet up with Gracie.

Here are some pics of the area we fished.

Bishop Day 2 – What the Hell are we doing?

We got up early and amp’d, only to ask ourselves “What The Hell Are We doing Wrong?”

Waterflows were High and Fast, The Hatch became stagnant.. pretty much killing off all activity we had on Friday.

I think between all ( 5 ) of us, we pulled in or hooked about 6-7 trout.. maybe tomorrow will be better.

Anyhow check out some pics

So Here We Are!

It’s been awhile, Geez I can’t remember how long,…..

Anyhow we made it to Bishop with plenty of fishing time, despite getting pulled over, stopping at Manzanar, and Culvers Sporting Goods.

Check out some Fish Porn, I should have some video clips up shortly.

I’m sure your curious as to what they are eating right? Well here’s a sample we took from a catch.

More to come!

Offshore News From One of Our Readers

I just received an E-mail from one of our readers (Randy), telling us how hot Fly Fishing offshore is, check out his note.

The season is winding down. October is usually a transitional month in offshore fishing. It can be excellent or fizzle. Knowing the end is near I have been taking some time off to get in a few last licks. Fished Friday with Jon and Saturday with Bryan. Too different days. Saturday Jon and I decided to go long but pulled up short after countless dry patties. We ended up sharing a few patties with others on a near bank. We stuck some tuna on the fly right next to the fleet that were having trouble getting hooked up on bait. I believe it was a depth thing as we were sinking out our flies about 30 feet. Jon got a hot rod and really spanked them for awhile. I broke off my fly line at the head messing around trying to put the breaks on one tuna just for the hell of it. Today Bryan and I set a course for the area Jon and I left on Friday. Really nice weather and we stuck with our plan not stopping till we got to the zone. After we got there it took us about 45 minutes to find a patty and that was all that we needed. Nice patty off the beatten path and loaded with YT. We actually had a wide open bite for awhile. Wide open defined as a fish on every cast (official definition according to Jon). Most of the time we had doubles with I think all of our fish coming on flies. Some rat sized YT along with some nicer models and a few YFT to spice it up. We fished until the bite ended hit a few more patties and came in. Great two days with two good friends. If you have the opportunity take a day off and run south it is just about as good as SoCal Salwater fly fishing gets right now.

Thanks for the pics Randy!

Tight Lines!
